Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch has been a huge hit in the year 2020, even becoming the most popular and relaxing game of the year. Animal Crossing: New Horizons initial release date was March 20, 2020, and sold over five million copies of the game in the first month; breaking sales records. Many of you reading this may be asking, “well why is the game so popular?” Nobody really knows the answer to that question although there are many features in this game that makes it unique and sets it aside from any other game on the market. Some details in this game that are different about others, is that Animal Crossing; needs your imagination to play, is relaxing, and there is no main objective in the game, meaning it is free roaming.


The best part about New Horizons is; you get to create your own town. You as the player get to decide; where each villager is going to live, what you are going to decorate your village with, and how you are going to manage your bells (Animal Crossing currency). At the beginning of the game your player is dropped off at an island with two other villagers along with Tom Nook. You as the player get to make the executive decision of what the town name will then be called from then on out, and where you are going to put the remaining villagers' houses. As your island progressively gains attraction; more villagers will be encouraged to come and live there, up to ten can live on your island. Each day there is always something new at Nooks and Cranny (Store on Animal Crossing), ranging from various bell prices. Thankfully unlike most other video games, you don’t need to exchange real currency to get game currency.


When Playing Animal crossing there is no main objective to the game, as the player you basically just wander, collect fruit, and decorate your village. Other than running from falling beehives, there is nothing about this game that can trigger built up aggression or anxiety. That is why Animal Crossing is very relaxing to play. Whether it’s fishing to grow your museum, or having conversations with your fellow villagers; people love the soothing features of Animal Crossing.
